DAGAAL OOGAYSHI AFRIKA: CHARLES TAYLOR, LIBERIA, KILLED 250,000 PEOPLE AND DISPLACED 1 MILLION.

Charles Taylor once described as the “tyrant of death” was the President of Liberia from August 1997 until 2003 when international pressure forced him to resign and go into exile in Nigeria. He remains one of the most brutal dictators in Africa till date. Charles Taylor was born in 1948 to a family of Americo-Liberians, the elite group that grew out of the freed slaves who founded the country in the 19th Century.
Charles Taylor is currently serving a 50-year sentence for his involvement in what the judge described as “some of the most heinous and brutal crimes recorded in human history.” He was found guilty of the following charges: Acts of terrorism, Unlawful killings, Murder, Violence to life, health and physical or mental well-being of persons. Some of his youthful supporters were heard to chant during the campaign: “He killed my ma, he killed my pa, I’ll vote for him”
The 1989-1996 Liberian civil war, which was one of Africa’s bloodiest, claimed the lives of more than 250,000 Liberians and displaced a million others into refugee camps in neighboring countries. Entire villages were emptied as people fled. Child soldiers committed atrocities, raping and murdering people of all ages. The strife also spread to Liberia’s neighbors, contributing to a slowing of the democratization that was progressing steadily through West Africa at the beginning of the 1990s and destabilizing a region that already was one of the world’s most marginal poor countries.
Somalilanders are advised to take reasonable care and caution when casting their ballots on 13th November,2017. Do not mimic the Taylor slogan of “He killed my ma, he killed my pa, I’ll vote for him”
