Somaliland Gained Cridit .Writting Mr:Samatar

Somaliland ruling party Kulmiye has been declared winner of the November 13 presidential elections. Muse Bihi Abdi and the current vice president Abdirahman Abdilahi Ismail Saylici, of the ruling Kulmiye party polled 55.1% of votes to emerge winner. His closest contender was Abdirahman Irro of the Waddani party who polled 40.7% with Faysal Ali Warabe finishing last with 4.7% of votes. The election became the first in the world to employ the iris recognition technology in order to avert electoral fraud. Even with the technology, opposition parties alleged fraud.

President-elect Muse will replace Ahmed Mohamud Silaanyo who did not seek re-election opting to step down after his first five-year term. The term was controversially extended for two and half years due to a shortage of funds and a drought that has crippled the economy. Abdulkadir Imaan Warsame, the chairman of Electoral Commission had previously said the election took place peacefully after taking measures to prevent everything that could disturb the voting process According to him, over 700,000 people eligible to to vote casted their votes in 1642 polling station. Overall voter turnout was pegged at 80%.

Here i am going telling a brief biography of elected president. “Muse Bihi Abdi, 69, is a former Somali air force officer turned a SNM rebel commander. “He previously served as Minister of Interior in Somaliland. In 2010 he was appointed chairman of Kulmiye Party; two years ago he received endorsement to become Kulmiye presidential candidate.” Also Mr Abdirahman Abdillahi Ismaa’iil known as Zeili’e is the vice president of the republic of Somaliland. He was born in Zeila in 1956 where he started his Quranic School.

After his intermidate education in Between 1975 to 1979, he studied Hargeisa Technical Institute. From 1980 to 1986, Abdirahman Abdillahi Ismail worked at Brothers Company for Business and Construction. Between 1987 to 2001 Abdirahman Ismail ran his own constructing company. His company played a great role in the reconstruction of Somaliland. He was among the first elected councilors running for the Kulmiye party ticket in the municipal elections held 2001 to 2003. Abdirahman was the first manager of SHABA Awdal Utility, a company of many stakeholders. His company was the first to be established in Somaliland to manage and maintain water in Borama. From 2008 to 2010, Abdirahman Zeili’I became the leading figures of Kulmiye and was appointed as a candidate of vice presidency. In 2010, Abdirahman Zeili became the vice president of the Republic of Somaliland, and now become the first vice president elected two terms of two different presidents. Somaliland has held successful presidential elections in 2003 and 2010 including a parliamentary election in 2005.

RThe 2017 election is touted to be the first incident-free polls to be held in the Horn of Africa in many years. Somaliland declared unilateral independence from Somalia on May 18, 1991. It has been under pressure to hold talks with Somalia which have so far been futile. Described as the most peaceful state in the Horn of Africa region, Somaliland can boast of an army, its own currency and legal system. The territory has been experiencing stability and economic prosperity. It has been influential in the fight against piracy and terrorism in the Horn of Africa. 26 years of diplomatic isolation has made it difficult for Somaliland to have access to loans from the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund. It is regarded as the autonomous region of Somalia and not a sovereign state, but we are expecting an international recognition due to the experience and the commitment of the elected president Muse Bihi abdi and his vice president Abdirahman Saylici.
